With a Marriage Visitor Visa, you can stay in the UK for up to 6 months.
You may wish to travel to wed your partner and not settle in the UK or to register a civil partnership. This visa is suited to Nationals who are not from the UK or reside in the Europe Economic Area. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
✓ Be in a genuine and verifiable relationship
✓ Intend to stay for less than 6 months, and leave at the end of your visit.
✓ Give evidence of your ability to support yourself throughout your stay without working, or sponsorship and intended residence within the UK.
✓ Show an ability to meet the cost of return journey
✓ Be 18 years and above
Documentation to be provided for obtaining a marriage visa apart from the necessities includes:
✓ Travel identification
✓ Bank statements and pay slips for the last 6 months
✓ Documentation that could suffice as proof for the relationship and evidence that plans are being made or have been made to establish a marriage or civil partnership
This takes about three months to complete and so should be processed well before the travel date. The marriage visitor visa does not allow its bearer to claim public funds, bring in any dependents, or take up prohibited employment.
